Ways to Reduce Negative Marks in Entrance Exam

Avoid Doubtful Questions :
If you get stuck in any particular question, then don’t waste your time trying to solve, leave it and move to the other question. If you attempt a doubtful question and by chance the answer is not correct then you get a negative mark.

Avoid Stress :
If you get stressed then you will mistakes even in the easy questions. Stress can spoil everything and this will reduce the marks.

Excitement :
Some of you get overexcited after reading the question paper and generally do silly mistakes because of the over confidence. Avoid it.

Practice Sample Papers :
Keep practicing the previous year question papers and mock test papers. If you practice mock test daily, then the chances of negative marking in examination will decrease.

Analyse Your Mock Tests Performance :
Analyse the paper after every test, and see that in which topic you are doing mistakes. Again read the topic and try to improve in next mock test.

Be Focused :
While you are solving one question don’t think about any other question which you might have left or want to attempt later.

Avoid answering questions in last few minutes :
Last minute hustle may increase the chances of mistakes and negative marking.

Make a note of your mistakes :
Make a notebook containing your silly mistakes, what went wrong, unnecessary calculations, time spent on solving the question, etc. Revise this notebook every time before a problem solving session or next mock test.

Follow this and your score will definitely improve.

Ventures to be Mentally Strong in Drop Year – For NEET/JEE Repeaters

There are multiple articles that focus mainly on the reading strategies, the ways of preparation and the goal is only to clear the exam. But this article is mainly going to focus on the most important thing of all, the mental health of the candidate!

How to improve Mental Strength in Drop Year

Teenagers are known to feel anxious or depressed over the silliest things. When students have a sole dream that is bound to decide their career, a little bit of anxiousness and tension is bound to be present. Mental breakdowns are also common for these students.

The most important thing that the students must understand is that having a trouble-free mind and being happy and relaxed is the key to concentrate and focus on the studies.

Most candidates feel depressed by the fact that they are repeaters and that they are wasting a year of their life. It is OK to take time to achieve the perfect goal that has been already set. People would always try to fool themselves with the notion that they should completely separate and isolate themselves from the rest of the world so that they don’t get distracted.

No one is the exact copy of another person. He perspectives and opinions are going to vary greatly between two individuals. So if one person feels comfortable isolating themselves from the outside world and social interaction and feel like they perform better that way, it is not going to work the same for everyone. If a person has been known to be a “people’s Person” their entire life, isolating themselves will do more harm than good, as they easily get frustrated from being alone.

Sacrifices are important, but the cost must not be the emotional and mental breakdown. It could push the individual away from their goal.

Chilling out with friends is important, relaxation is very imperative after a very serious session of preparation, as it gives time for the mind to process and relax in all way possible. The students often make the mistake of pushing themselves too far out of their comfort zone that they become a burden to themselves.

It is very important for the students to devise a plan which would suit them rather than blindly following what everyone lase follows.

Keeping calm is the only goal here, even when relatives tease and taunt or try to “advice”, or when the test series marks are low. The goal is attainable and the confidence and a calm mind would be the key to success.

Last but not the least, competitive exams aren’t the end of the world and it shouldn’t have a permanent or lasting effect on the students who are attempting them.

Many Engineering Hopefuls To Choose Computer Science

Computer science is the most favoured choice of engineering course aspirants at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs)
A quick glance at the opening and closing ranks of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Advanced) at the top IITs and NITs in the past few years shows that candidates do have a positive bias towards B.Tech computer science.
The opening and closing ranks (gender neutral) for computer science at IIT, Bombay, this academic year were 1 and 59; 3 and 100 at IIT, Delhi; 51 and 200 at IIT, Madras; 92 and 272 at IIT, Kharagpur; 103 and 213 at IIT, Kanpur; 278 and 416 at IIT, Roorkee; and 333 and 554 at IIT, Guwahati.
At the same time, the opening rank for JEE (Mains) for outside students at NITs in Surathkal and Tiruchirappalli was 278 and 338 and 3,382 for home students at the NIT, Calicut. (In all NITs 50% of the seats are allotted to students of the home State).
However, the opening and closing marks considered at the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, were 340 and 260 out of 360 in the JEE (Mains).

Better avenues

Why the top ranking students choose computer science over other disciplines have many factors, including the possibility of better placements. The average annual salary offered for computer science students at the NIT-C, ranked 50th in the engineering colleges category at the national level, was ₹12.5 lakh.
Three students were offered the highest salary of ₹40 lakh and three others ₹33 lakh, all by multinational companies.
T.K. Suresh Babu, head of the NIT-C Training and Placement Cell for 2017-18, said computer science provided challenging opportunities including app development.
Besides, the training period during the post-hiring period is less for computer science graduates when compared to the other engineering streams. Working with multinational companies and the prospects of going abroad also attract the students, he said.
Incidentally, the Analytics Special Interest Group set up by NASSCOM has predicated that there could be a shortage of around 2,00,000 data scientists in India in the next few years.

Employability factor

However, employability factor has also been the biggest issue for companies since data analysts are drawn from different fields, including mathematics, information science, and computer science.
Sanjay Sharma, an IITian and a faculty at a JEE coaching institute, says engineering aspirants choose computer science because of the good departments at the IITs, especially Bombay and Kharagpur. “But many candidates have wrong notions that computer science is an easy branch when compared to the other B.Tech. courses. Many have been compelled to go for extra tuition. Besides, students at IITs face a tough syllabus than their counterparts at the NIT,” he said.
Good Luck Aspirants !

How to Score 180 in JEE Mains 2019 in 75 Days

With the #JEEMains Phase 1 scheduled for Jan 6th 2019, #VenperAcademy wants to share a few strategies to optimise your scores in the next 75days!!

Chemistry is the scoring subject of JEE Mains alike Biology in NEET. 80 out of 120 is quite possible if you master your NCERT followed by a practise of 75-100 MCQs, which should be a combination of Previous Year Questions & Probable Questions alike in Venper’s JEE Test Series.

When it comes to Physics, picking on the relatively easy chapters would be a smart move. Kinematics, Unit & dimensions, Work power Energy & Laws of motion would cover a minimum of 20 marks. Focussing on Modern Physics for Mains would fetch us easily 8-12 marks.

Learn how to solve circuit questions from Current Electricity (12 marks weightage, where atleast 8marks is possible) which is interesting and at JEE mains level they are relatively easy also.  Another 16 marks (4 questions) are usually extremely easy which everyone can solve with the knowledge of their boards as they are usually Theory based. This makes out your total of minimum 56 marks of physics.

When it comes to Mathematics, completing Coordinate Geometry is easy and totally formula based. It has a weightage of 20 marks so that you can make atleast 12 marks for sure. We may focus on the following chapters like Sequence & Series, Mathematical reasoning, Differential equation, Binomial theorem, Sets relation and function, Differential calculus, Quadratic equation & Trigonometry thus fetching atleast 24 marks.

Permutation & Combination plus Questions on Probability many of the times comes easy in JEE Mains. Atleast 8 marks in the Mathematics Paper are easy which is achievable from the board knowledge. Thus it makes around 44 marks in Mathematics.

This makes out a total of minimum 80+56+44 = 180.

We have not touched many topics, but atleast we have to learn all the formulas from those chapters and some of their application, so that you won’t miss out on the easy questions from them.

Another tip is to learn as to how to solve 90 questions in 3 hours by attempting papers regularly as ultimately it’s your Time management skills and confidence on yourself which decides your output on the Big Day!

Venper Academy JEE Mains Extended Short term course for January & April attempt offers a focussed coaching module with importance to the high mark weightage chapters & regular Faculty assisted Worksheet practise with a promising ouput of 200+ in JEE Mains!

Good luck aspirants!

Chapter Based Tips for NEET Physics 2019

As a continuation to our previous Blog on #PhysicsNumericals, Department of Physics, #VenperAcademy wants to enlighten the students on the nuances of preparation for #NEETPhysics 2019.

After an in depth analysis, the very important must know Chapter based tips are as follows,

In the case of Kinematics which can have a 3-5% weightage, a NEET aspirant

  • Must be very clear with concepts like Displacement, Acceleration, Average Velocity & Relative velocity. Try to visualize the problems in the mind to effectively tackle them.
  • In projectiles finding Range, Maximum height, Time of flight, velocity at any point on the trajectory is important. Generally in this area questions are straight and fair.
  • Questions based on graphical data are also important.

When it comes to Laws of Motion carrying a 3-5% weightage,

  • Practice the conceptual questions based on Laws of Motion and application of the principle of conservation of linear momentum. While working out problems related to connected bodies, students should necessarily draw free body diagram.
  • The concept of finding velocity of the colliding bodies in one dimensional elastic head on collision is important.

In the chapter of Work Power Energy having a 4-5% weightage, Theorems are the main subtopics. Sometimes it is advantageous to do the problem using law of energy.

In Motion of System of Particles and Rigid Body (5%) the,

  • Questions on vertical circular motion are the expected models.
  • Problems of finding Torque, when position vector and force vector are given are also important.
  • Finding Moment of inertia of regular bodies using parallel and perpendicular axes theorem are important.
  • Also, work out problems based on conservation of angular momentum and rolling motion.

Gravitation is a relatively an easier chapter with 2% weightage

  • Be clear with basic forces in nature. Simple question on Universal law of gravitation, variation of ‘g’ with altitude, depth, latitude are important.
  • Problem solving technique using energy conservation helps arrive at the answers.
  • Problem on orbital velocity, escape velocity are very important.

In the chapter of Properties of Bulk Matter with 2% weightage,

  • The advantage with elasticity is limited sub-topics & limited models of problems. The main concepts are with stress, strain related modulus of elasticity and Poisson’s ratio. To answer theory bits, concepts like elastic fatigue & behavior of wire under increasing load must be understood.
  • Examples of surface tension from daily life, surface energy, relation between surface tension and surface energy, angle of contact & capillarity must be mastered. Effect of temperature on surface tension, excess pressure in soap bubble and liquid drop are topics from which we can expect questions. Problems like finding work done to split big drop into number of droplets, work done to blow a soap bubble are important.
  • Try to be thorough with fluid mechanics as it is inter-related to many other topics in physics.
  • Problems based on Bernoulli’s theorem, velocity of efflux are more important.

Thermodynamics is quite an important topic to be focused with close to 9-10% of mark weightage. Request the aspirants to,

  • Have a clear idea of zeroth law of thermodynamics, Joules law, and the first law of thermodynamics. Principle of calorimeter, problems related to different thermodynamic processes are important. While solving the problems related to work done in adiabatic and isothermal, keep in mind the sign conventions.
  • Do some models on Carnot engine – Efficiency and Coefficient of performance.
  • Be thorough with the concepts on Kinetic theory of gasses.

Kinetic theory of gases is a simple and easy topic with 3% weightage in which conceptual questions can be practiced.

Oscillations and waves (3%) is an interesting chapter where students should understand the term phase and its importance in solving problems. They should know the,

  • Different relations for Velocity & Acceleration. The maximum and minimum values are to be remembered.
  • To solve problems related to loaded spring, students should have clear idea of spring constant, changes in the time period, when it is cut and coupled with other springs.
  • Try to work out more numerical on Doppler effect and pipes

In Optics, Wave optics may be covered first as the content is less compared to Geometrical Optics. Regarding wave optics concentrate on theory based questions.

Theory based questions will be asked from the chapters like Modern physics, Semiconductor devices & the Communication systems. #TamilnaduStateBoard students have an added advantage as their Board exam preparation supports them well for the same.
Another common area is Gravitation, Electrostatics and Magnetism with same principles and applications by chance of variables. Coulombs law becomes Newton’s Gravitational law. The analogue of the Gauss’s Law can be used for evaluation of gravitational field.

Electricity and Magnetism can be studied together. Electric current & Thermal conduction also are associated topics.

Thus by giving top priority to Modem Physics, Electrostatics, Magnetic effects of current and earth’s magnetism, Heat & Thermo Dynamics, SHM and Oscillations, Current Electricity, Gravitation & Rotational Mechanics, EMI, AC & EM Waves, Optics & Kinematics we can achieve a decent score in NEET Physics 2019. These are the Chapters which are given extra focus and practice in Venper’s Crash Course 2019 commencing from 20th March 2019.

Good Luck Aspirants!!
