NEXT may be Mandatory for Foreign Medical Graduates

Foreign Medical Graduates keen to practice in India may have to clear the National Exit Test (NEXT) instead of Foreign Medical Graduates Exam (FMGE) from next year.

In an attempt to streamline medical education and maintain uniformity in quality of doctors practicing in the country, the health ministry is planning to merge FMGE with NEXT, which has been proposed to assess quality of MBBS pass-outs.

At present, foreign medical graduates are required to write the FMGE and need to show Medical Council of India (MCI) eligibility certificates to become eligible to practice here. Now, the government is planning to merge FMG with NEXT and scrap the MCI eligibilty score and instead introduce NEET score for foreign graduates.

According to the health ministry, in 2015-16, only 610 out of 5,863 Indian students who pursued medical graduation abroad passed the screening test conducted by MCI. However, the number of such students going abroad, mainly to China, is constantly increasing because while seats in government medical colleges in India are limited, pursing MBBS in private colleges here is a very high cost affair. The proposal of NEXT is part of the National Medical Commission Bill, 2018, which is likely to be taken up in the monsoon session of Parliament. The bill, which was amended following recommendations of the parliamentary standing committee on health, now proposes a uniform national exit test in the final year of MBBS course.
FMGE are conducted twice a year and require 50% marks to clear. Earlier this year, the ministry has also made it mandatory for Indian students to clear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) if they want to pursue medical studies outside the country.

15 Day Study Plan and Tips to Crack NEET 2018

1. Start with detox – experts ask students to take a breather and relax before starting on the final stretch of the examination. It is important for students to relax and take a complete break from the studies for a while before starting afresh.

2. Attempt a sample paper every day for the next 10 days – Sample papers are crucial to cracking any competitive examinations. Experts highlight that the most important thing a candidate/ aspirant can do is focus on self-evaluation. The best way to do that is to attempt a sample paper every day. Students should focus on solving the papers in the given time slot under similar restrictions. Experts suggest students to start their days with a sample paper and then evaluate which areas they are not comfortable with.

3, Go through NCERT course-books for Class 11 and 12 for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics – the syllabus for NEET 2018 is based on the NCERT prescribed curriculum. While many students focus on competitive books, experts feel that carefully going through the NCERT books would help them score better in the competitive examinations.

4. Adhere to a time-table – Discipline is the key and students must prepare a timetable and stick to it. Allocate days to each subject and thoroughly go through the parts that appear as problem areas in the sample papers for many.

5. Focus on revising the entire syllabus in the 5 days just before the exam and not attempt any sample papers then – Experts feel that in the last 4 or 5 days, students should go through their notes and try to revise the syllabus thoroughly. They ask students to focus more on physics and chemistry as compared to biology as the key to getting a competitive advantage is often with cracking physics and chemistry. Also, in chemistry, the focus should be more on organic chemistry.

In the end, experts believe that the key to success is not what students do in the days preceding the exams but the overall preparation of the year. However, it is important that students start with revising their concepts and focussing on the HOTS or higher order thinking skill questions as that would be the base of the competitive examination. And remember that there is negative marking. It is hence extremely important for students to be certain and not do guesswork.

How should + 1 & +2 School going Student Prepare for NEET 2019/20?

It’s always been a challenge for Tamilnadu +1 & +2 School going students to balance both Boards & NEET preparation in parallel. Now at the fag end of Board exam spell, students should start the preparation from the month of May.

Commencing on May 15th, a 12th std student can spare an approximate 400hrs of coaching plus 100hrs of assessment during the weekends over the span of 9 months till Feb 15th. A 10th completed student can undertake coaching for 800hrs plus 200hrs of assessment during the weekends over the span of 18 months till 2019 Feb 15th. On weekdays, practice & preparation of 2hrs/day ( guided & monitored by a coaching institute) will gross to another 400hrs which will be double the number for a year aspirant. As the Class XI & XII topics are of equal importance for NEET, Venper Academy has the Best NEET 2019/20 strategies within this available time frame.

  • Understand, Assimilate & Establish the concepts once for all. The standard of Questions in Genetics & Human Physiology in Biology is increasing every year. Similarly Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Thermodynamics, Heat, Optics and Waves demands strong concept fundamentals also applicable for Physical Chemistry.
  • Physics is the Rank deciding subject & on the contrary Tamilnadu students have the country’s lowest Physics average. Our 2017 students were put on a regular Worksheet practice with interactive doubt clearing sessions thus establishing an average score of 92/180 in Physics paper.
  • Venper’s Vision Biology Digest series has a hit record of 76/90 MCQ in NEET 2017. In addition to NCERT, multiple revisions of Vision series with regular Worksheet practice assures a score of 300+ in Biology.
  • A student must be aware of the MCQ’s asked so far, covering the various concepts in a chapter. Thus practicing Previous Year Questions & Venper’s Probable Question bank @ a range of 125-200 MCQ per chapter assures a good score.
  • A 12th Std aspirant can cover the 12th topics initially which indirectly enhances the Board performance. Towards the last 2 months, important 11th topics can be covered followed by the pending covered post Board exams. A 2 year aspirant has a better time frame to work on the 11th topics during his 11th & kick-starting 12th @ a earlier date with early completion with proper revision schedules.
  • Online Test series is an important tool for boosting the confidence & Time Management skill for aspirants. A daily routine of Online Test series with State wide score comparison & Result Analysis develops the extra edge to face the competition. Venper’s Daily Practice Tests has over 2200 aspirants taking up Daily Tests.
  • Cumulative & Mock Tests at periodic intervals in an exam like environment develops concentration, memory recall skills, concept application & Time Management skills.
  • Last but not the least, self analysis is a very important factor. One should know where they stand & Venper’s Master Self Analysis (VMSA) Sheet does the same. VMSA has list of chapters with subtopics arranged in order of mark weightage & importance. Helps students to know their areas of Strength & Weakness chapter wise to catch up on the lag & deficiencies. ( Sheets attached for reference)
